Hobby Rocketry
by Mario Perdue
The Hobby Rocketry BLOG is a place for me to voice my opinions about everything related to hobby rocketry. Over time I'll cover topics from low to high power and everything in between. Sometime you'll agree with me - other times you won't. You may find yourself irritated or amused by something I write. Hopefully I'll help us look at our hobby with a critical eye. If I can provoke a positive thought or two, I will have accomplished something good.
My BLOG allows registered readers to comment on what I’ve written and I invite you to do so, but please keep it civil or I’ll be forced to edit or remove your post. Foul language and name calling will not be tolerated. Also, please limit your comments to the subject of the BLOG entry.
Please remember that the opinions I express here are mine alone and do not represent the official position of LAUNCH Magazine or any of its employees.

Things finally slowed down enough for me to attend a launch so I went up to Muncie, Indiana for the first of the Central Indiana Regional Fun Fly's - over the Memorial Day weekend. Attendance was low, probably due to the fact that NSL was going on reasonably nearby, so there was no waiting for pads. I had hoped to have several rockets from my book ready for flight photos but that wasn't to be. I did get a few of them photographed though. |

I'm inching closer to completing the book.At this time all the major build items are together and waiting for detailing and painting. Obviously, the photos of the build sessions have been made as well. I'll be entering a marathon painting phase this week to get all the various models finished. If the weather cooperates I should have the big ticket items wrapped up this week. |

I'm making steady progress on the various builds that are being covered in the book. I'm adding a good deal more information for the builds were already published in the magazine. A few preview photos of some of the new stuff is included here. |

I'm making steady progress on the builds for my Space Modeling book. The two "easy" builds - an Astron Mark Clone from Semroc and a pseudo-clone of a friend's design from the '70s are done and waiting for paint. I'm currently working on my 1:70th scale NASA series that includes a Mercury-Redstone, Mercury-Atlas, Gemini-Titan, Saturn 1B and Saturn V. The first three models are together except for some details like surface piping and such. I'm currently re-visiting the Semroc Saturn 1B to update the article to add additional scale features. Then I'll move on to the Apogee Saturn V and a rework of the Launch Utility Tower. I chose to use the Apogee Saturn V model over the Sirius model that I wrote about previously because the scale of the former is consistent with the other models I'm building.

I've recently received some email asking what I've been doing while LAUNCH has been on hiatus. The answer is that I've been very busy building rockets and writing about them. The down time at the magazine has given me some extra time to build and photograph the new models that I'm building for my rocketry book. Some of you are probably asking, "What rocketry book?" so I'll tell you a little bit about it.
